Man Cracks 30 Safes in Restaurants Around Metroplex

Police release surveillance footage of man cracking safe in Subway restaurant

Investigators are looking for a man who has broken into at least 30 safes in fast-food restaurants across North Texas.

Surveillance video at a Bedford Subway sandwich shop recorded one break-in. Police say the man has struck in Bedford at least five times.

Investigators dubbed him as the "Subway Bandit" at first because he broke into a lot of the sandwich restaurants. But police say he has cracked safes in plenty of other restaurants as well.

"He knows what he's doing," Bedford police Lt. Kirk Roberts said. "He knows how to not leave evidence behind. And once he gains entry, he knows what to do to makes things difficult for us."

Roberts said investigators hope the surveillance footage will lead to his arrest.

"These are pretty good," he said. "Somebody is going to know him if they see him."

Police say the man has burglarized fast-food establishments in Allen, McKinney, Plano, Denton, Garland, Irving, Arlington, Bedford, Colleyville and Grapevine.
