Man Charged in Beating Death of Infant Daughter

An East Texas man is charged with murder in the beating death of his infant daughter, who suffered a fractured skull and ribs.

Twenty-two-year-old Kendrick Elliott of Lone Star was arrested this week and being held Wednesday at the Gregg County jail on a $100,000 bond.

An autopsy determined that 4-month-old Ja'Kavioenna Elliott died of blunt trauma to the head.

Kendrick Elliott's court-appointed attorney, Richard Hurlburt, says his client is the child's father. Hurlburt on Wednesday had only recently been assigned the case and declined further comment.

The girl was brought to a Longview hospital in February 2013 but could not be revived. Authorities say there were indications of previous fractures and also scars on the child.

Longview police spokeswoman Debra Stiles says it's not clear what prompted the beating.
