Man Breaks Into Home, Sexually Assaults Woman

Dallas police are searching for a rapist who broke into a woman's house in Lake Highlands and attacked her at knifepoint early Friday.

Police said the man broke into the home in the 10800 block of Ferndale Road and attacked the woman, who was asleep in bed, at about 12:45 a.m.

Neighbors reported seeing police cars and officers with flashlights scouring the streets early Friday. Officers were back in the neighborhood Friday afternoon.

"I'm shocked; very, very, shocked," neighbor Cassandra Jenkins said. "This is a very safe neighborhood. I've lived here for 32 years, and it's just really safe."

The victim's next-door neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said a man knocked on her door twice Thursday -- once in the morning and once at night -- and asked to speak to the lady of the house. She said she now thinks the man may have been trying to get information on who lived in her house.
