Man Arrested for Possessing Explosives: Police

A 38-year-old Houston-area man has been arrested on charges ranging from explosives possession to attempted interference with commerce by robbery.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Houston says Robert James Talbot Jr. was arrested Thursday after an eight-month undercover investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Force and is in the federal detention center in downtown Houston.

A criminal complaint alleges Talbot aimed to recruit a small group to blow up government buildings, rob banks and kill law enforcement officers.

The complaint says Talbot met with others Thursday to plan an armored car robbery and placed two bombs made of C4 plastic explosives into a backpack for use to blow up the vehicle. He was arrested while en route to the robbery.

His attorney, public defender Philip Gallagher, declined to comment.
