Man Arrested, Charged With Murder in McKinney

A man has been arrested and charged with murder in Collin County.

McKinney police say an unknown emergency was reported at a home on the 300 block of Pintail Drive at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers entered the home and discovered a woman on the floor, dead. She has been identified as 44-year-old Mary β€œBeth” Merz.

Authorities also found a man in the home, 42-year-old Eric Merz, and initially transported him to Baylor Medical Center for treatment.

Neighbors tell NBC 5 that the two were married with two children. Police say the children were safe and were not at the home when police discovered the couple.

Eric Merz has since been transported to the Collin County Detention Center charged with murder.

Bond for Eric Merz has been set at $150,000.

A neighbor told NBC 5 that man was seen putting something into an outdoor fire pit in the backyard; a few moments later, the neighbor heard two popping noises.

Additional information has not been released by authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.
