Man Armed With a Knife, Shot by Police in Weatherford Has Died

A man shot by a Weatherford police officer Tuesday morning has died, and the officer is on administrative leave, police say.

Police said someone called 911 at about 10:50 a.m. to report a person acting strangely that had tripped and fallen in the median between two businesses along the 1800 block of South Main Street.

When EMS arrived and attempted to assess the man's condition, he pulled out a knife and pointed it at paramedics, police said.

The man then walked toward the doors of David's Western Wear as police were called to assist.

When an officer arrived, he followed the man into the Western store where there was a confrontation.

The officer ended up shooting the man at least once, police said.

The armed man was disarmed and then treated by EMS personnel still on the scene before being taken to a hospital in Fort Worth, where he died.

No other injuries were reported.

The man's name has not yet been released and an investigation into the incident and shooting are underway.
