Driver Hits Patrol Car, Charged With DWI

No one was injured in crash

Police didn't have to go far to arrest a West Texas man accused of drunken driving on Interstate 10.

El Paso police said the man's vehicle hit a stopped patrol car.

Nobody was hurt in the crash early Thursday as police were directing traffic away from the scene of an earlier wreck.

Police spokesman Darrel Petry said the patrol car was unoccupied. Petry said 39-year-old George Manuel Gay Jr. of El Paso stopped after his vehicle struck the police unit.

Officers arrested Gay on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Electronic jail records did not list an attorney for Gay, who was held on $750 bond.

Petry says the patrol car has bumper damage. Details were not immediately available on whether Gay's vehicle was damaged.
