Man, 77, Shot at, Robbed While Washing Car in Fort Worth

Fort Worth police are looking for the person who robbed and shot at a 77-year-old man as he washed his vehicle at a car wash Tuesday morning.

Police said the robbery and gunfire took place at the Squirt, Wipe and Go on the 2400 block of Edgecliff Road where the victim, identified by family members as Pascual Palos, often went to wash his car.

While washing his car Tuesday, Palso said he was approached by a man who walked up to him and asked for his wallet.

The man, Palos said, then pulled out a gun and pistol whipped him twice on the head. Palos said he fell to the ground and dislocated his shoulder as the man grabbed his wallet before firing two gunshots.

Both shots missed Palos, who was later hospitalized but is expected to recover.

“He’s got two pretty good sized knots on his forehead, a lot of blood on his face and during the struggle dislocated his shoulder,” said the victim’s son, Pascual Palos III. “It angers me because people are out taking advantage of senior citizens ... I’m very upset about that."

After taking Palos' wallet, the thief rode away on a bicycle, police said.

“It’s one thing to rob him but It’s another thing to beat him up and shoot at him -- and I don’t understand why someone would do that,” said Palos’ daughter, Leticia Mitchell. “Right now I’m having the realization he could’ve not been here, so I’m going to appreciate every day he is here with us."

The investigation into the shooting and robbery are ongoing. Police are hoping to review video footage from surveillance cameras to learn more about the gunman.
