Lubbock Man Killed Wife, Slept Near Corpse: Authorities

Prosecutors said a Lubbock man sentenced to 45 years in prison for killing his wife slept beside her corpse before dumping her body in Big Spring.

Epifanio Guzman pleaded guilty Monday to murder as part of a plea deal.

Investigators have said Guzman strangled his wife, Rachel, as they argued May 30, 2014. Her family reported her missing June 3. Her body was discovered in Big Spring, where Guzman was also arrested.

An indecency with a child count filed against Guzman prior to the slaying was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. A burglary count was also dropped.

The 43-year-old Guzman must serve half of his prison term before he's eligible for parole.
