Love Field Hopes to Relieve Parking Woes This Thanksgiving

Dallas Love Field hopes to avoid a repeat of last year's Thanksgiving weekend parking problems.

The airport recently added 2,000 parking spaces, including more than 500 for valet parking.

New electronic signs now let drivers know how many parking spaces are available in each of the garages and lots.

The busiest Thanksgiving travel days at Love Field are this Wednesday and Sunday.

"Now we have about 9,000 parking spaces – we added some more and a remote lot also – but the thing that's new at Love Field, we have electronic signs that tell folks when they arrive at the airport right at the entrance, how many spaces are available," said Love Field spokesman Jose L. Torres.

Torres said the electronic signs count cars going in and cars going out, so they are always up-to-date.

The airport also plans to have extra Dallas police officers on hand to keep traffic flowing, but officials recommend it is still better to be dropped off and picked up.

Love Field has experienced a significant increase in passenger travel in the past year due to more Southwest Airlines flights after the expiration of the Wright Amendment and Virgin America's move from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
