Longview Teacher Suspended, Student's Arm Marked

An East Texas teacher has been suspended with pay after allegedly using a permanent marker to write on a student's arm.

Longview Independent School District spokesman Brian Bowman said Juliandra Harris, who taught second grade at Ware Elementary, said the teacher wrote that the student stole marshmallows on the student's arm.

Bowman said that the method of communication was inappropriate and not productive and told the Longview News-Journal that the investigation would resume Monday.

Harris was suspended April 8, one day after the message was seen on a student's arm.

Harris did not immediately return an e-mail for comment Monday from The Associated Press. There was no phone directory listing for a Juliandra Harris in the Longview area.

KLTV-TV reported a different student, Demeatricia Wilson, said Harris also wrote a message on her arm as a reminder to "bring folder to school."
