Denton’s first liquor stores could start opening in the next few months.
Ron Menguita, an administrator in Denton’s Planning and Development Department, said the city has already received applications from Shax’s in Lake Dallas, Liquor Outpost and Imperial Ale to open stores in the city limits.
Those applications need to be approved by the Texas Alcoholic Beverages Commission before the city can issue permits, and Menguita said the stores could open fairly soon thereafter.
Denton residents voted overwhelmingly in November to allow liquor sales in town including at bars.
Until now, bars have had to operate as private clubs and stores have only been allowed to sell beer and wine.
