Life After Grand Champion Steer Bob Marley

Who can forget last year's Grand Champion at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo -- a steer named Bob Marley who set a record when he was brought for $240,000. (Published Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016)

Judges at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo named the 2016 Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion steer.

But who can forget last year's Grand Champion? A steer named Bob Marley set a record in 2015 when it brought $240,000 at the Sale of Champions.

Teenager Madilyn Priesmeyer still can't believe her steer won and set a sale record.

"I kind of blanked out, and it didn't really hit me until a few weeks later what had happened and how huge it was," she said. "It was all so crazy."

"Most of the money went toward my education at Texas State. Some of it went to my brother's new steers this year," said the 18-year-old.

And, yes, the crossbreed that brought her her fame and fortune still crosses her mind.

"I miss him. I have a recent picture of him. He's all big now and crazy looking."

Big, she explained, because Bob Marley now eats whatever he wants. And, "crazy looking" because there's no need to fluff him and blow dry him anymore.

His show days over, and life on a ranch in Weatherford is good.

Madilyn hopes way in the future after college, she'll some day be back in the arena at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo watching her own kids show their grand champion, too.
