A classroom project in the Lewisville ISD means a little boy will get his Christmas wish.
Students at Hedrick Middle School created 100 cards that are now on the way to Ryland Ward, a little boy wounded in the Sutherland Springs church shooting.
Ward will still be in the hospital on Christmas, but his wish was to get Christmas cards. Eighth grade English teacher Heather Feist saw the story on NBC's "Today" show and felt compelled to act.
"I shared Ryland's story with my classes and had my students decorate and make cards for him, Feist wrote. "Although my students come from a lower economic school, this story truly seemed to touch them and they loved making cards for Ryland. Other teachers joined in as well, and right now we have over 100 cards that we will be sending his way."
"My students truly were impacted by being able to give back and share kind words with the little boy, and it was a great life lesson for them, especially at the holidays," Feist wrote. "Thank you NBC DFW for allowing me the chance to do something so special and kind for a precious child in need."
