Lawyer Sentenced for Stealing from Clients

Lawyer accused of stealing more than $200,000 from clients

A former North Texas lawyer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing more than $200,000 from clients.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday that 61-year-old Donald Driver in 2007 gave up his law license, in lieu of possible disciplinary action by the State Bar. Driver was accused of keeping cash settlements meant for his clients.

Driver, who continued to practice, was indicted in April on six counts of falsely working as a lawyer and two counts of misappropriating assets.

Prosecutors in Fort Worth say Driver pleaded guilty Jan. 6 to misappropriating client funds and falsely holding himself out as a lawyer. He was sentenced the same day.
