Massive Construction Equipment Heist

Police say a Pilot Point man is behind the largest construction equipment heist in Collin County history.

On November 3, investigators from the Collin County Sheriff's Office, McKinney Police Department and the the North Texas Auto Theft Task Force recovered 14 pieces of stolen construction equipment at a home on the 200 block of West Grove Street in Pilot Point.

Police arrested Hector Delgado Castorena for allegedly stealing the equipment at construction sites in Allen, McKinney and unincorporated Collin County.

"To my knowledge, this is the largest equipment theft recovery for the sheriff's office," said Collin County Sheriff's Office Lt. Chris Havey. "We've never recovered 14 pieces of construction equipment at the same time like this."

Havey says the investigation is on-going and there's a possibility more people were involved in the heist.

The stolen equipment, which has a price tag of more than $675,000 includes: five skid steer loaders, two excavators, two large goose-neck trailers, sky-lift, backhoe, bumper pull trailer, commercial welder on a trailer and a Dodge truck.

Havey says a man intending to buy a skid steer loader from an unknown man led police to Castorena.

"He provided the pin number to Dallas police. They checked it and told him it was stolen," said Havey.

Dallas police notified the Collin County Sheriff's Office who traced the equipment to Castorena's home.
