Lake Highlands Man Shoots Intruder Monday Morning: Dallas Police

A Lake Highlands homeowner stopped an intruder by shooting him Monday morning, according to Dallas police.

Police say the residents of a home in the 9500 block of Moss Farm Lane, near Royal Lane and Abrams Road, woke up around 5 a.m. to a man banging on the door and ringing the doorbell.

Someone in the home told the man he was in the wrong place and needed to leave, but the man apparently came back and kicked in the door.

The homeowner told police that's when he shot the man, who then ran off.

Neighbors tell NBC 5 they woke up before the shooting happened.

"First I heard the music blaring, and it was like shaking my house, so I thought 'what was going on?' so I got up and turned all the lights on. And when I got to my door, I heard someone scream and then heard 5 or 6 gunshots," said Savannah Askin who lives nearby.

Askin said she saw a car in the middle of the cul-de-sac and a man's shoes or clothing and called 911 after hearing the gunfire.

Authorities later found the man and took him to a hospital for treatment.

Police say they'll release the suspect's name once he's released from the hospital and booked.

The resident was unharmed.
