Memorial Day

Lake-Area Business Owners Concerned About Floods

Memorial Day weekend is very important to many businesses near lakes and some business owners are worried about the recent storms' effect on profits.

After near daily storms during the past few weeks, many lakes are over their banks. As a result, boat ramps and parks are closed to the public.

"We have had a 75 percent drop since the lake came up," said Lake Dallas Tobacco and Gifts manager Mary Trammell. "[In] about a week and a half."

Trammell said the recent flooding is the worst she's seen in the seven years she's owned her store. She said business usually doubles on Memorial Day weekend.

"It has been up for a few days and recedes and people could go to the parks, but they haven't been able to go to the park for two weeks," said Trammell.

Not every business near Lake Lewisville is hurting, though. Brittney Burton, who works at Tredway's Texas Barbeque, said business has been good. at their restaurant, which is only a few feet from Lake Lewisville.

"We have a customer base already," she said. "So people already know we are down here."

Burton did agree that the parks being open would have better for business. And the people at both businesses NBC 5 visited hope the rains stops soon.
