A new school built in Crowley may not open right away.
The city's new intermediate school near Hulen Street and Risinger Road will be ready for students in August but the district currently doesn't have the money to staff the school.
The building, and another campus, were funded by a $417 million bond package approved by voters shortly before state legislators altered funding formulas.
Changes in how much taxes can be raised for operating expenses have left officials at districts statewide worried that they may not be able to open schools that they build.
A proposal to raise taxes to fund the $7 million needed to open the school failed.
Officials with the Crowley Independent School District said the school will likely not be able to open this fall as planned.
