Church to Give Away 10 Cars for Easter

An Irving church is giving away prizes in hopes of drawing more people on Easter weekend.

Calvary Church in Irving will give away 10 cars, 1,000 bags of groceries and 50,000 Easter eggs filled with candy. The church is also offering bigger prizes such as Texas Rangers tickets and vacation packages.

"I hope that people do come and experience a place where they belong and a place where people love them and want to reach out to them," Ben Dailey, lead pastor. "As Christians, we celebrate Jesus, his death, his burial, his resurrection [at] this time of year, and it's God loving loud. So we thought, what's a way that we could love our community in a loud way?"

Calvary Church will give away the cars during its nine services this weekend.

Dailey said church members responded in a big way to his call for donations. He and his wife took the lead, giving up their Mercedes-Benz. Nine other cars followed, from sedans to a minivan, new and used.

Church leaders received hundreds of touching stories through their website from people who could use a new car. Eight of those people will win one, and two more cars will be given away as part of a random drawing.

"I can't wait to be able to give the keys to a car to somebody -- to a single mom or to someone who's been laid off who's not making it," said Chris Ayon, spiritual formation pastor.
