Iconic Pink Cadillacs Hit Roadblock

Mary Kay adding black Mustangs to fleet

The Mary Kay cosmetics sales person driving a pink Cadillac once stood, OK, sat, as the symbol of a top performer in terms of company sales.

Well, that pink Cadillac now has company in the corporate garage.

Company executives used the annual Mary Kay convention this week, July 25-28 in downtown Dallas, to unveil its newest corporate ride — a 2011 black Mustang — available to top-performing Mary Kay independent sales directors.

Smooth.

Evidently, the pant-suits wanted to upgrade their mid-20th century image by adding a little extra something under the hood.

The big unveil happened about 2:45 p.m. under a cascade of pyrotechnics and curtain of smoke in front of thousands of independent sales reps. Imagine the squeals of delight.

But wait. The sight of a well-made-up, well-coiffed woman driving a pink Caddy just screamed Mary Kay. How will we know the chic… lady behind the wheel of the Mustang reps the cosmetics?

Oh, right, sorry, it’s advertising. We’ll know.
