Hurst Parents Attend Training to Prevent Child Sex Abuse

The Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District hosted a meeting for parents Thursday at Hurst Hills Elementary School where police say a 17-year-old boy posed as a sixth grader to recruit child victims.

Ricardo Lugo, 17, remains in the Tarrant County Jail, while his alleged accomplice, 28-year-old Randy Wesson, is in federal custody. Both are accused of possessing child pornography, and investigators said Wesson posed as Lugo’s father to enroll him as a student using fake documents.

Alliance For Children Advocacy Center presented the training program titled Darkness to Light’s “Stewards of Children” to about 100 parents who attended the meeting.

The organization's website describes the program as “a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program" that educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, and motivates them to courageous action.

Hurst police have not confirmed that any students at Hurst Hills Elementary were victimized. Still, police have asked parents to speak with their children about whether they feel they were victimized.

"There's still a lot of unknowns," Brittney Wragg, parent of a Hurst Hills Elementary School student, said. "I know there's been word of images and that's still in the back of my mind. Like, 'Is my child one of those?'"
