Hunt County Man Charged With Killing Girlfriend's Son

A Hunt County man was arrested Thursday, charged with the death of his girlfriend's young son, police say.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Joe Everett Autry III, was charged with capital murder in the death of 2-year-old Jordan Lumsden after an autopsy by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office said the boy's manner of death was a homicide.

The exact cause of the Lumsden's death has not yet been released and police said more tests are needed. Additionally, officials have not said why Autry stands accused in the boy's slaying.

In a statement Friday, the Hunt County Sheriff's Office said they received a call July 31 about an unresponsive child at a home on Wright Way Circle in Quinlan.

The boy lived at the home with his mother, Autry and Autry's parents, police said.

When paramedics arrived at the home CPR was being performed on the boy. He was taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Autry, police said, was arrested, charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bond. In Texas, capital murder includes the murder of a person under the age of 10.

According to Autry's records he has been arrested four times in Hunt County on charges that include assault causing bodily harm to criminal mischief.
