Huge Pricetag for July 7 Ambush Overtime Pay

Local law enforcement officers worked more than $800,000 in overtime to help the Dallas Police Department after the July 7 ambush that killed five officers.

The Dallas County sheriff's office, Arlington police and Irving police were among the agencies that assisted the Dallas department during funerals and memorials after the ambush. The officers answered calls, worked procession routes and performed similar tasks to free up Dallas police.

The sheriff's office said its employees worked about $86,000 in overtime between July 8 and July 22, according to estimates The News obtained through records requests.
