How Consignment Shops are Using New Technology to Spot Fake Handbags

Danielle Foster is a trained Gemologist. She has an eye for the authentic but lately hasn't been using it solely for jewelry.

"In the past in years past, we've gotten a ton of bags, and it's still difficult for me," said Foster of Uncle Dan's Pawn Shop.

"One came with the box, the Burberry box, dustbag," said Foster but it turned out to be a $10 fake.

Now a special camera is helping.

The technology allows merchants to take photographs of the leather, stitching, inside and out and use a database to determine if the bag is real.

Entrupy is the company behind the camera. Their stamp of approval comes with a guarantee the bag is real.

Entrupy claims it's more than 98% accurate.

It's peace of mind for consumers and store owners.

Uncle Dan's Pawn and Keeks Designer Handbags are the only two North Texas store currently using the technology.
