Houston Requests Dallas Trash Trucks to Help in Harvey Cleanup

Dallas council members expected to vote on request Wednesday morning

Dallas city council members are expected to consider a request on Wednesday from the City of Houston to help in the massive effort to clear the streets of storm debris from Hurricane Harvey.

More than a month since Harvey first made landfall as a Category 4 Hurricane, Houston and much of the Texas Gulf coast is still inundated with debris and refuse from the resulting flooding and damage.

Houston has requested assistance from Dallas in the form of trash trucks and staff, specifically bulk trash collection vehicles, equipment and staff.

According to city documents, the Dallas Response Team is expected to include 35 percent of the bulk trash collection staff.

As a result, if the move is approved, the bulk trash collection schedule in Dallas would likely be interrupted through the end of the year.

FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, would reimburse the City of Dallas for the expenses. That reimbursement could total $1.8 million.
