Police say a Houston man has been charged with killing his 2-year-old son in an alleged beating with a belt.
Harris County Jail records show 24-year-old Tyrone Jefferson was being held without bond Friday on a charge of capital murder of a child under 6 years old. Online jail records did not list an attorney for Jefferson, who was arrested after the victim was discovered Thursday afternoon at an apartment.
Investigators say Jefferson had been babysitting the toddler while the boy's mother was at work. Emergency personnel summoned to the residence found the youngster with numerous bruises. The boy, whose name wasn't immediately released, died at a Houston hospital.
Jefferson, as he was led away by police, denied beating his son.
