Homeowner Shoots Burglary Suspect

Plano police say a burglary suspect is hospitalized after a homeowner shot him.

The man was shot at a townhouse in the 2500 block of East Park Boulevard.

Investigators said the homeowner called 911 just after 10 a.m. and told a dispatcher that someone was trying to break into his house and that he was armed and would defend himself.

The homeowner described hearing a thud at his door that sounded like someone was trying to kick it in and then hearing a second noise from the patio door of his upstairs balcony. The homeowner said he heard glass shatter as he went upstairs to investigate.

Police said the intruder had entered the home and was running up the stairs when the homeowner saw him and fired.

An eyewitness reported seeing several men fleeing the home and getting into a blue car.

Minutes later, police found the suspect in a car not far from the incident with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators are still looking for other people who may have been involved.

In addition to the shattered glass on the door, there were visible footprints from the effort to try and kick the door in.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Plano Police Department.
