Homeless Man Suffers Frostbite in Bitter Ice Storm

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the man called 911 from a cell phone. A friend of the man made the 911 call. NBCDFW.com regrets the error.

The cold temperatures overnight Tuesday took its toll on a homeless man living in his truck with his dog in the woods off Loop 12 near Texas Stadium.

A friend of the man became concerned about the man's safety and called 911. Because the man was so deep in the woods, it took a Dallas police helicopter to find him.

Dallas Fire Rescue crews said the man was unable to walk because of frostbite on his toes and feet.

"He'll be fine. He's much better now that he's got a warm cap and some blankets," said one of the rescuers.

He apparently got his truck stuck in the woods several days ago, and when the temperatures dropped Tuesday night, frostbite set in.
