Homeless Man Rescued from Garbage-Filled Truck

Dallas emergency personnel used ladders and ropes to rescue an apparent homeless man buried in garbage in the back of a trash-hauling vehicle.

The injured man was rescued shortly before 5 a.m. and was taken to Baylor Hospital in serious condition.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said the garbage truck driver was compacting the trash on his way to the next pickup stop, when he heard screaming.

The man's hips were crushed but he did wave as he was hoisted from the trash truck with a pully system by the Urban Search and Rescue team, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said.

Temperatures in the Dallas area were in the mid-40s early Monday.
