Hit-and-Run Driver Now Charged With Murder: Plano PD

Plano police say the man responsible for a hit-and-run crash that left one dead and three injured is now charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Officers were called to Hangout Bar and Grill in the 3300 block of North Central Expressway at about 10:30 p.m. on April 17 after a car hit four people in the parking lot and left the scene.

Police said a Plano officer found the car involved in the crash nearby and took 23-year-old Benjamin Newman into custody. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and causing an accident involving injury.

Two people injured in the crash were treated and released, two others were taken to the hospital, according to police. One of the victims was in serious condition, the other suffered life-threatening injuries.

Three days after the crash, Christopher Ryan Brigman, 23, from Plano, died from his injuries. The other man has since been released from the hospital and is still recovering from his injuries at home.

On Monday, Plano police said Newman was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's being held in the Collin County Detention Center on a total of $200,000 bond.
