The former superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District is stepping down from his job leading one of the largest districts in the state of Georgia.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that Cobb County Schools Superintendent Michael Hinojosa is retiring and moving back to Texas after May 31.
Hinojosa told the Cobb County school board of his plans during its meeting Monday night.
Hinojosa said he plans to accept a position as a senior vice president of a Chicago-based national education consulting firm. He said he plans to return to his home in Dallas where he can spend time with family.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Hinojosa's announcement came after he apologized for the district's response to last week's winter storm. But he said the timing had nothing to do with that criticism, instead citing his family as a main reason for his decision.
Hinojosa left the DISD in 2011 after being named the sole finalist for the Cobb County top job.
