High-Tech Animal Hospital Opens in Arlington

Ever since they were in veterinary school, Drs. Antonio Bowens, Jantzen Strother and Forrest Cummings talked about opening a practice that stood out. Three weeks ago, they did just that in south Arlington.

“It was something that was just a dream,” said Cummings.

Dream is an appropriate word to describe the Veterinary Referral & Emergency Hospital of Arlington – because many of the items you’ll find inside look like they came straight out of a dream. Bowens says many people are surprised to learn what kind of healthcare technology is now available for cats and dogs.

“All the different specialty aspects of human medicine, we have those in veterinary medicine and much, much more,” said Bowens.

In their physical therapy suite, for example, they use underwater treadmills, cold laser therapy and sonogram technology to help pets regain their strength.

They also have access to hyperbaric chambers and specialized CT scanners and MRI equipment, which can help treat and diagnose a wide range of internal injuries and diseases.

“I like the fact that it is diverse,” said Cummings.

The veterinarians and their team are just as diverse as their machines. Each one has different specialty – whether it’s oncology, neurology, internal medicine or physical therapy.

“Our goal was to make it a one stop shop,” said Strother.

The hospital primarily handles referrals from other area veterinarians, but also serves as a 24-hour emergency clinic.

VREHA is located at 1350 Caplin Drive in Arlington.
