Heightened Security Greets U2 Fans at AT&T Stadium

Four days after the Manchester terror attack, Arlington police added extra security at AT&T Stadium for Friday night's U2 concert.

"There's a lot of things that fans will never ever see, and we keep it that way to really keep the criminal element on their toes so they really can't predict where our guys are going to be," said Lt. Chris Cook, Arlington Police Department spokesman.

Police officers with dogs circled the stadium while others stood guard with automatic weapons Friday afternoon.

There was at least one extra officer at each intersection, and undercover police mingled with the 50,000 fans inside the stadium.

As is normal for any event at AT&T Stadium, anyone entering the building was checked with a metal detector, and no bags or purses where allowed.

Last-minute ticket sales for the concert remained brisk all day Friday.

"My guess is there will be thousands of people going to the show tonight that did not even have their tickets this morning," said Lance Higgins at TicketSource.com. "Security is very, very tight here, and I think they have confidence in that."

Arlington police and security experts say fans themselves offer the best security measure.

"We recommend that everywhere you are – doesn't matter if you go to the beach, you go to the concert, you go to a bar, you go to the airport – you should always be aware of your surroundings. You see a bag that's unattended, say something to an official," said Clive Miskin, managing director off International Security Defense Systems.
