Hearne Officer on Paid Leave After Fatal Shooting

A Central Texas police officer has been put on paid administrative leave following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex.

Hearne police on Wednesday announced the duty change for Officer Stephen Stem. Police have declined to release specifics on what led to Sunday's death of 28-year-old Tederalle Satchell.

Hearne officers responded to a complaint about a group in a parking lot and shots fired from a vehicle carrying three people. Arriving officers spotted the vehicle and the trio. Investigators say Stem was involved in a shooting and a gun not belonging to police was found at the scene.

Police Chief Thomas Williams and a Texas Ranger declined additional comment Wednesday.

Records show Satchell in October was released from prison after serving time for felony drug possession in Brazos County.
