It appears illegal fireworks made for a busy Fourth of July weekend for Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters in Dallas responded to 45 fire calls in a 12-hour period over the holiday weekend, according to department spokesman Jason Evans.
Evans said firefighters responded to 21 grass fires, 20 trash and dumpster fires, and four structure fires between 8 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
The blazes were not confirmed to be caused by fireworks, but Evans said it is highly probable the incidents stemmed from celebration mishaps due to the massive call volume within the time period.
In addition to responding to dozens of fires around the city, fire inspectors and police officers confiscated approximately 1,077 pounds of assorted fireworks and issued two citations, Evans said.
According to our media partners at The Dallas Morning News, firefighters reported fireworks being shot at them and their fire truck as they battled a blaze at a Dallas apartment Sunday morning.
Firefighters responded to reports of a dumpster fire and people shooting fireworks at people around 12:40 a.m. to the Creekside Villas at 340 N. Jim Miller Road.

While firefighters battled the fire, some reported fireworks being shot at them and at their fire trucks. “Thankfully, no one was injured,” Evans told The Dallas Morning News.
