Grapevine Police ID Officer Who Fatally Shot 1 After Pursuit

North Texas police have identified the officer who fatally shot an unarmed man after a pursuit that ended in Euless.

Grapevine police Sgt. Robert Eberling said officer Robert Clark shot and killed 31-year-old Ruben Villalpando. Clark is on routine administrative leave.

Eberling said Clark was dispatched Friday to a business for an activated alarm. Clark saw a vehicle in the parking lot and turned on his car's emergency lights. [[293090681,L]]

Dashboard camera video shows Clark following the vehicle, which sped off onto a highway and eventually stopped in the 2500 block of Texas 121, Eberling said. Clark ordered Villalpando to show his hands outside his vehicle, but Villalpando instead emerged and walked with his hands up toward Clark's car despite commands to stop.

Eberling said Clark repeatedly told Villapando get back into his vehicle. Two shots are then heard.

Villalpando was transported by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital where he later died.

Clark, on the force since last May, remains on administrative leave.
