Late Sunday afternoon, police cleared the scene on the 3000 block of Commodore Drive in Grand Prairie after officers staked out an apartment in the area.
At 12:30 p.m., the Grand Prairie Police Department received a call about a man with a loaded gun in a neighborhood just east of Commodore Drive.
When police arrived and spotted the man, he took off. Officers ran after him and saw him go into a residence at the Hunters Cove Apartments.
Nearby, officers recovered a weapon they believe to be the one the man was carrying.
As a precautionary measure, about 20 people in surrounding apartments were evacuated.
Just before 5 p.m., police entered the apartment, but the man was not inside.
