Grand Prairie Police Search Neighborhood for Armed Man

Grand Prairie police requested aid from the Arlington Police Department after receiving a report of a man walking around with a long gun, or rifle.

Shortly before 8 p.m., several children reported a man wearing only shorts or underwear walked up to them while holding a long gun, police told NBC 5. The man pointed the gun at the children, who ran home and told their parents what happened.  The parents then called police.

When police arrived, they reported hearing gunshots coming from the woods. Heavily-armed officers searched both the wooded area and nearby homes for the man, but did not locate the source of the gunshots.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the search was called off.

The neighborhood is near Crouch Elementary School, where Holiday Drive turns into Prairie Hill Lane along the Arlington-Grand Prairie border.  The neighborhood is on the west side of Grand Prairie, east of state Highway 360 between Park Row Drive and Abram Street.

No other information can be confirmed at this time.

NBC 5's Scott Gordon contributed to this report.
