Grand Jury No-Bills 2 Officers in Unrelated, Fatal Shootings

Two Fort Worth police officers have been no-billed by a Tarrant County grand jury in unrelated fatal shootings, the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office says.

According to the district attorney's office, on April 24, 2013, a Fort Worth police officer was responding to an aggravated robbery call at a fast-food restaurant.  As the officer pulled up to the location on the 6400 block of Brentwood Stair Road, he spotted a man running from the scene.

The officer followed the man, later identified as 29-year-old Brandon Alexander Smith, into a nearby neighborhood where he ordered the man to stop. The district attorney's office said Smith instead fired on the officer, hitting him in the thigh.  The officer returned fire, killing Smith.

On June 23, 2013, a Fort Worth police officer fatally shot a man who was stabbing a woman, the district attorney's office said.

The officer and two others were called to an apartment complex on Bridgehill Drive where a caller reported a man assaulting a woman inside an apartment.

When officers arrived, they entered the apartment and found 37-year-old Damon Earl Bacy stabbing a woman with a large knife. Officers ordered Bacy to drop the weapon. When he refused, the officer shot Bacy, who later died at an area hospital.

The woman was hospitalized and survived her injuries after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds.
