Grand Jury Clears North Texas Officer in 2014 Fatal Shooting

A North Texas police officer will not face charges in the 2014 fatal shooting of an armed suspect while trying to break up a gang fight.

A Wichita County grand jury declined to indict Wichita Falls police Officer Scott Poole.

Authorities say Poole was on patrol last July when he saw a gang-related disturbance in a bar parking lot. One person was pistol whipped.

Police say Poole chased an armed suspect, who tossed a gun into a vacant lot. Poole caught up with 34-year-old Armando Aleman, who then pointed a second gun at the officer.

Poole opened fire, striking Aleman once. The suspect died at a hospital.

Prosecutors have said Aleman was a known gang member whose criminal history included robbery, burglary and drug convictions.

Poole was no-billed Wednesday.
