Gov. Perry's Travel Detail Cost $140k at End of 2012

Gov. Rick Perry's security detail cost the state more than $140,000 in travel costs in the last three months of 2012.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that almost half of that cost came from a September trip to Italy. While Perry's campaign account or outside sources generally cover his personal costs, taxpayers are typically billed for his security detail.

The Texas Department of Public Safety releases those state costs every quarter.

Perry has said that he met with government and business leaders on his Italy trip.

Perry's security detail has cost $2.4 million in out-of-state travel costs since he was re-elected in 2010. Much of those expenses came during his failed presidential bid.
