Good News on Good Friday

Baby’s birth a family event in Denny’s lot

Good Friday turned into a great Friday for the Dubreuil family of Rockwall, but not without an odd twist along the way.

Matriarch Sandra Dubreuil had gone into labor, and the family — father, Jared, three kids, and the dog — piled into the minivan and headed for maternity at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Nature, though, said, “Ah, ya know what? I think the family will have an addition before y’all get to the hospital.”

Nature’s always right.

Sandra’s contractions and other birthing-related developments [cringe] intensified to the point of a crowning event. Dad had to pull off the freeway and into the parking lot of a Denny’s restaurant in Garland, where he delivered a young, very young, Camila, and way to go dad — whose birthday is today, by the way, so happy birthday, Jared.

An ambulance arrived soon thereafter, the now-expanded Dubreuil family made it to the hospital, mom and baby were fine — still are, thank you very much for asking — dad may or may not have snagged a to-go Grand Slam breakfast, and the family dog was not traumatized. Only thing missing was a strip club.

Good Friday, indeed.
