Make Extra Time for Security During Holiday Travels

Leave extra time to make it through airport security during your holiday travels this week.

"They did have a lot more security," said Suzanna Woods of Fort Worth, who arrived home from Las Vegas Sunday.

"They took a little more time with my ID ... really looking at me, making eye contact, making sure that was really me on the id then comparing my name to the ticket," said Woods.

Across the country, experts said airport security is stepped up for the busy travel season, coming in the wake of the most recent terror attacks.

"They're watching the crowd, they're talking to the people, they're engaging in a conversation," said former Dallas FBI Special Agent Danny Defenbaugh.

Airport security can be seen asking more questions, checking carry-on luggage more carefully and watching people more closely.

"What's going to be the level of scrutiny you want to achieve on daily basis according to the threat you receive," said Chaim Koppel, managing director of International Security Defense Systems. "So, more threats, more alerts, more resolutions, you're going to have more cues, more screening time."

"With that, you're going to notice there's going to be a backup in the line," said Woods. "But for me, it's priceless, you know, piece of mind is priceless."
