Getting Fit Also Counts as TAKS Prep

A new study has found that Texas students who are physically fit are more likely to do well on the state's standardized test.

Fit students also have better attendance and are less likely to have disciplinary problems, according to the study released Monday, which reviewed fitness assessment data from school districts across Texas.

A 2-year-old law requires a physical fitness assessment of all public school students beginning in third grade.

The law requires the Texas Education Agency to analyze the results by school district annually.
