Gas Prices Lowest in Five Years

North Texas is seeing some of the lowest gas prices in five years. The Quik Trip and Exxon on Main Street in Keller were both at $1.69 per gallon for regular gasoline Thursday night.

“It’s incredible,” said Ron Freer. “I just love it. I haven't seen it [the low gas prices] in many years. It’s great.”

The statewide average price of regular gas in Texas is $2.26 per gallon. That is 78 cents less than a year ago, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

“Normally with gas, the way it was it took about $95 to fill it up,” said Lanita Bibbs, who drives a Ford Expedition. “Now it’s about $50. So it’s good.”

Doug Shupe with AAA Texas/New Mexico says the low demand and high supply of oil is causing prices to drop. And experts predict the prices will continue to go down.

“We are going to travel more, we are going to do more things,” said Carlos Rodriguez. “And if the prices keep going down, we can go to a lot of places, too.”
