State figures show Galveston now has made more than $83,000 from a new parking meter program the city began last summer on Seawall Boulevard.
The latest report to the Texas General Land Office shows visitors during the December-February quarter paid more than $58,000 to park. After operating expenses, the city was left with a little more than $29,000 after operating expenses.
The Galveston County Daily News reports the quarterly accounting is required as a condition of the city's beach-user fee.
The profits are to be used for improvements along the seawall that fronts the Gulf of Mexico. The city council already has approved construction of two outdoor showers. Public restrooms are being considered for another building project.
