Funeral Home Owner Dondre Johnson Acquitted in Theft Trial

A former Fort Worth funeral home owner once handed the maximum jail sentence on two counts of felony theft will soon be freed.

The defendant, Dondre Johnson, was accused of taking money for cremation services and then not delivering on them as promised.

Prosecutors said Johnson's East Fort Worth funeral home, the Johnson Family Mortuary, mishandled remains and left decomposing bodies inside the building.

Johnson was sentenced in 2015 to two years in state jail and a $10,000 fine for each of the two counts, however a court of appeals decided there was an error in the trial court's judgments and reversed the verdict.

Johnson is still currently housed in the Bradshaw Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He is eligible for release though it's not clear when that will take place.
