Frisco Police Investigate Disturbance at Day Care

A Frisco woman was booked Monday after police said she allegedly shook a gun case and yelled profanities near a day care playground last week.

Kara McSweeney is charged with one count of making a terroristic threat.

Staff at Kids 'R' Kids of Lawler Farm notified police of the alleged incident Feb. 4 and placed the child care center on lockdown while officers investigated.

Police said they then made contact with the neighbor and determined no weapon was actually displayed.

McSweeney was released Monday from the Collin County Jail after posting a $2,000 bond.

Parents got an email about the incident, and Heidi Kendle said it was very upsetting.

“My children, who are 3, were the children on the playground that day,” said Kendle.

The owner of the child care center met with the Frisco police chief the next day.

“Children, and there are a lot of them in Frisco, are very important to us,” said Frisco Police Chief John Bruce.

Texas law allows citizens the right to have a gun while on their own property.

There is now extra security at Kids 'R' Kids of Lawler Farm.

“I want parents to be assured that their children’s safety is our top priority as well,” said owner Malak Agha.

Kendle said that her kids didn’t even know what happened.

“They were very happy when they came home last night, running and playing. So it’s pretty cool to see their innocence was protected and they had no idea what happened,” said Kendle.
