Frisco Council OKs Rezoning for Wal-Mart Store

The Frisco City Council approved a plan Tuesday to rezone nearly 28 acres at Farm-to-Market Road 423 and Stonebrook Parkway to make way for a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

The council ultimately approved the zoning change despite a large number of residents who packed the council chambers to voice their opposition.

Wal-Mart representatives said this wouldn't be their ordinary store. They plan to sell higher-end merchandise, build a public park next door and design the store to match the look of the surrounding neighborhoods.

But it's not enough for the dozens of residents who packed the council room Tuesday, saying they fear the store could mean a possible increase in traffic and crime.

They said they want growth but not something this big so close to home.
